Stihl is a pioneer of its industry

STIHL sees itself as a pioneer in its industry. „Always one step ahead of the global competition with the demand for the highest quality in our products. We pursue this goal with strong innovations“, Anke Kleinschmit, Chief Development Offi cer, summarizes the mission statement on the company‘s website.

Pionierarbeit auch im Shopfloor Management

To meet these demands, digitization plays a major role at STIHL. So it‘s no wonder that the company has set up a dedicated department at its Weinsheim site with responsibility for digitization projects. With the goal of initiating a pilot project for the digitization of shopfloor management, the digitization team around group leader Kevin Emonts set out to fi nd suitable solutions.

Noticeable workflow improvements

Through a reference, the project team contacted the experts at Scable. Kevin Emonts: „It was important to us that the existing processes at STIHL were supported quickly and easily. Scable solution offered us a simple and user-friendly option here.“

The magnesium die casting plant in Weinsheim was selected for the pilot project. Here, more than 900 employees work on the production of complex magnesium die castings for STIHL‘s own products as well as for external customers. The integration of existing machine data via appropriate interfaces was particularly important in this context. Project Manager Kevin Hütz is very pleased: „We were able to integrate Scable directly into STIHL‘s existing software landscape. This minimizes manual input processes and increases the degree of automation.“

Employees on the shopfloor are especially keen to participate in workflow improvements.

The systematic approach means that employees are actively involved in recording problems and downtimes so that targeted measures can be initiated. This results in noticeable improvements and fewer hectic interruptions in the workflow.
